Here’s what I’m reading at the moment!

What are you currently reading?
All Systems Red – Martha Wells
I finally started reading this book. I’m not very far into it, but am enjoying it a lot so far. It’s also quite short, which I think will make completing the series easier!
Synopsis: All Systems Red by Martha Wells begins The Murderbot Diaries. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.
What have you recently finished?
Sweet Bean Paste – Durian Sukegawa

I am currently very much into short translated Japanese fiction. Something about this book, whether the focus on a small shop struggling to make confectionary correctly, or the mix of ages of the characters involved, was really heart-warming (and hurting) at the same time.
Also the covers are always so charming!!
Synopsis: Sentaro has failed. He has a criminal record, drinks too much, and his dream of becoming a writer is just a distant memory. With only the blossoming of the cherry trees to mark the passing of time, he spends his days in a tiny confectionery shop selling dorayaki, a type of pancake filled with sweet bean paste. But everything is about to change. Into his life comes Tokue, an elderly woman with disfigured hands and a troubled past.
What are you going to read next?
The Dragon Republic – R. F. Kuang
I still haven’t finished the Poppy War trilogy, so rather than just read the final book I’m…rereading it all again. I read the first book way too fast, but it is the kind of series where you need to take a breath between each book, so this one’s next on the list with some shorter books between.
Synopsis (for book 1): When Rin aced the Keju – the test to find the most talented students in the Empire – it was a shock to everyone: to the test officials, who couldn’t believe a war orphan from Rooster Province could pass without cheating; to Rin’s guardians, who had hoped to get rich by marrying her off; and to Rin herself, who realized she was finally free from a life of servitude. That she got into Sinegard – the most elite military school in Nikan – was even more surprising. But surprises aren’t always good.
