It’s always interesting to answer questions like these. It makes you actually think about your reading!
If you’re curious, here is last year’s entry.
Best book you’ve read so far in 2022

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman
Assassin’s Apprentice – Robin Hobb
It’s impossible to choose only one favourite, as always. I liked both of these for different reasons – the first because it was such a human, tender and funny depiction of a woman’s isolation, and the second because look, I read it again a couple of months ago, which means I’m allowed to list it here.
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2022

Call of the Bone Ships – R. J. Barker
Funnily enough, this is book two in the series, and I enjoyed it the most. Usually, the second book is only a filler, but here I felt it seemed to carry the weight of the character development. (Plus, I wasn’t hugely impressed with the series ending).
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

People Person – Candice Carty-Williams
I really loved Queenie so I’m excited to check out the author’s next book!
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

Our Missing Hearts – Celeste Ng
Babel – R. F. Kuang
My recent TTT post was filled with ten whole options, and it’s impossible to choose between these two. I’m so excited to see what these authors come up with next!
Biggest surprise

A Bollywood Affair – Sonali Dev
I have not read anything from this author before, so I was pleased when I picked this book up at a whim and found I enjoyed it. I did find a few things about it disappointing (characterisation), but overall it was a good read. More of my thoughts here!
Biggest disappointment

The Prince of Thorns – Mark Lawrence
Considering this is one of those ‘must-read’ books for fantasy lovers, I was very let-down by it. More thoughts here!
Fave new author

One of my favourite books of the year, The Ones We’re Meant to Find, was written by Joan He, and I’m definitely checking out her first book now, Descendent of the Crane.
Newest favourite character

Obvs I have to pick Zetian from Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao. I could’ve picked this as a fave book of the year, too.
A book that made you cry

The Four Winds – Kristin Hannah
I’m not often a reader of these historical fiction saga type stories, but this was pretty phenomenal (and emotional). Highly recommend the audiobook! Mini review here.
A book that made you happy

The Flat Share – Beth O’Leary
I was pleasantly surprised by this book! My thoughts are here, but to summarise, the characters are great and the romance builds really nicely. I totally understand why the author is such a fan-fave.

Favourite book to move adaptation of the year so far
I haven’t read Anatomy of a Scandal, but the limited-series it produced was really good.
What books do you need to read by the end of 2022?

Let’s face it — TBR never ends. These are just a few of the books I’ve mentioned on the blog already so far this year!
If I was actually regularly updating Goodreads or using Storygraph like I’ve said I would, I’m sure posts like this would be a lot easier. As it is, I may have forgotten half the books I’ve read this year.🧐 I also skipped a few of the questions that didn’t apply!
Joan He has become of my favourite authors as well! I cannot wait for Strike the Zither!

Well I have just now learned she has a third book coming out so I’d better read the first asap! This is excellent

I’m happy to see some Robin Hobb on your list as well! 🥰 I’m definitely going to be rereading her books a ton, too – although I can’t go down the route of including rereads in this tag because then you guys would get the same answer to that question every single year 😂
I’m sorry the Mark Lawrence book was a let-down, though. I’ve been thinking about trying his work eventually…

Haha that’s sensible, although I manage to avoid the temptation to reread my favourite books too often!
Hope you enjoy Mark Lawrence’s books better than I do. I wasn’t a huge fan of Red Sister either, although I don’t actually know if I finished that one.. 🤔

I just got Iron Widow and am excited to finally dive it. Babel looks so good. I can’t wait for that one. I love Mexican Gothic so much. I hope you enjoy it. Hope the second half of 2022 treats you well 💕
